FAQ'S FOR VOTERS

  • The general municipal and school boards election will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025. Advanced voting opportunities will happen October 14-18, 2025. Polling station information will be available in summer 2025.

  • Citizens will have the opportunity to cast their ballot for the following offices:

    1x - Mayor

    8x - Councillor

    7x - Trustee of Red Deer Public School Division  -or-

    7x - Trustee of Red Deer Catholic Separate School Division

  • In order to vote, you must prove your identity and address by showing government issued identification containing your photograph, current address and name. 

    Someone who knows you can vouch for your address only.

  • Advanced voting days are October 14-18.

  • Applications for special ballots will open August 1, 2025.

  • No. Electors can only vote in one school board election of their choice. 

  • Yes, property ownership is not a determining factor on who can vote. All citizens who meet the eligibility to vote requirements, as per the Local Authorities Election Act, are eligible to vote.

  • No. Your place of residence must be within the city of Red Deer on Election Day to meet voter eligibility criteria.

  • No, you may be a resident of only one place at a time for the purposes of voting under Local Authorities Election Act
     

    If a person has more than one residence, the person shall designate one place of residence for the purposes of the Local Authorities Election Act in the following order of priority:
     

    1. the address shown on the person’s driver’s licence or motor vehicle operator’s licence issued by or on behalf of the Government of Alberta or an identification card issued by or on behalf of the Government of Alberta;
       

    2. the address to which the person’s income tax correspondence is addressed and delivered;
       

    3. the address to which the person’s mail is addressed and delivered.

  • Yes, you must be a Canadian citizen. You must also be:
     

    • At least 18 years old; 

    • A resident of Alberta and your place of residence is located in the local jurisdiction where you are voting on election day.

  • Yes, all voters must be on the permanent Electors Registry. Voters are encouraged to register in advance to speed up the voting process at the polling station.
     

    Go to voterlink.ab.ca to register to vote or confirm your information is correct. If you are not registered ahead of time, electors will be required to register in person at the polling station and will be required to sign a declaration.

  • The City has measures in place to ensure residents’ information is protected. The City does collect some information from residents to support the administrative requirements of the local authorities election process. All personal information collected during the election is managed in compliance with the privacy provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and is destroyed soon after the election.

  • Yes. Elections Red Deer will be hiring temporary election workers for the 2025 Municipal General Election. Advertising for these positions will begin in August.

    If you're interested in working the 2025 election, please submit an Election Employment form. Your name will be added to a list, and we will reach out when applications open.

  • Yes, you can vote by Special Ballot. Applications for Special Ballots will open August 1, 2025.
